ashura
until recently, nabatiye in south lebanon, was one of the last places where the shiites still celebrated the ritual of ashura. This religious holiday conmemorates the death of hussein, the grandson of the prophet mohammed. well known are the bloody flagelations, less well known is the mis en scène of the story of the last days of the imam.
A gothic festival of blood, pain and tears and a collective catharsis of emotions reaching well into the present of lebanese history.
